Time Management

After reading Psalm 90:9, “they spend their days as a tale that is told.”  A major conviction came on me.  I don’t want my life to be spent…not that way.  And as I continued to read, I found the solution in the passages that followed.

Psalm 90:12 says, “So teach us to number our days and apply our hearts to wisdom.”

This is quite the instruction here. First, we are told to number our days.

To number is to assign, tell, prepare and appoint.  As I meditated on each of these, this is what the Lord revealed to me concerning “time management”.

Assign your day…place within it’s bounds something that will be accomplished for God. To assign is to transfer property to another. What part of 24 hours or 1,440 minutes or 86,400 seconds can I use to do such a thing? Property is something we own. What do we own today that can be transferred to someone else? Friend, as joint heirs with Christ, we own more than one day can contain, especially when we have been given eternity. How many salvations can 24 hours take in? How many minutes does it take to heal someone or give someone peace?  Only time will tell.

So teach us to tell our days. That’s an interesting perspective, now isn’t it? Faith is believing and speaking and the truth is that we must believe in our heart and speak with our mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord. We have to tell our day that! I never really thought of this but we must speak to our time. We have to inform our days, the next 24 hours that Jesus Christ is Lord. We need to tell our time what it is going to contain for us. Salvation, healing, forgiveness, provision, love, mercy, peace, joy, grace, righteousness…these shall come forth every second of the 86,400! 1,440 minutes, you shall make room only for Wisdom & Understanding, Knowledge & Reverence, Counsel & Might! Day,  make room  now for tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, word of knowledge, word of wisdom, discerning of spirits, gift of faith, gift of healing, working of miracles! These 24 hours shall contain love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. Day be full of blessing!

We must prepare our days. For something to be prepared it must be done beforehand. So, I would say that we must do steps 1 and 2 before our day begins. Preparation takes forethought and meditation. Time spent supplicating and thinking on God’s word…finding out what God has in it for us. God has prepared “things” for all those who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 & 10 says, But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”  How much time do we spend, allowing Holy Spirit search our tomorrows for us?  We must invest in Holy Spirit and in allowing Him to reveal what has been prepared to our spirit so that it can then be seen, heard & can enter in to our heart in order for us to tell (#2) our day what shall be in it!

And finally, we must appoint our day. Appointments are critical. The word in Hebrews 9:27  says that it is appointed once for a man to be born and once for a man to die. Those are appointments that God faithfully keeps….our very being is proof of that. Daniel 11:35 & Habakkuk 2:3 speak of appointed “times”…which would come to fruition within the span of today. Hebrews 3:13  even puts an emphasis on the importance of “while it is called today”  Today being capitalized, as though it were a persona…such as the Lord Himself.  And in Acts 22:10  the Lord speaks to Paul of “things” appointed for him to do.  Our appointments must be kept and we have today to do it!  Today!
